“SoCal Premier U23 First Season Comes to a Close with a Win of the California U23 Championship”
“It was a fantastic inaugural season for the SoCal Premier U23 league. The high level of competition was exactly as we expected.” Said Matt Morse, President of SoCal Premier / CSL-Adults.
Chivas USA won both the league and the California Championship against the NorCal U23 Premier league.
The two top teams from SoCal Premier and NorCal Premier met in San Luis Obispo on Aug 4th to determine the Cal U23 Champion. Corinthians USA Pomona United, also represented SoCal Premier won a tough match against DV8 in the semi-finals to make is it a “all” SoCal Premier final.
Chivas USA won the league with no loses and just one tie. Corinthians USA Pomona United was a very close second with the most goals scored throughout the season. Sports Club Orange County (with the lowest goals against) and Chula Vista Premier FC rounded out the top four.
The feedback from the teams (coaches and managers) was very positive, the level of play continued to push their players to improve their game, the venues were top notch and the level of officiating was at par with the competition level.
A few of the teams will join the CSL-Adult/SoCal Premier division for the fall season now that they have been exposed to high level of competition that is provided.
Next summer you will see the return of the U23 summer league, because of the great success and the “buzz” we anticipate many more teams to participate, including a women’s division.
